Microneedling

With Jeanette Oka M.D. and Elizabeth Sommers RN, BSN

About the Procedure

A progressive, minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation procedure, also known as collagen induction therapy, used to treat a variety of skin concerns.

The concept of microneedling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury. Immediately after an injury occurs, our skin dissolves old damaged tissue and replaces it with new.

During the treatment, small needles prick the surface of the skin creating tiny columns of slight injury to the skin which, in turn, causes the skin to respond by producing new collagen-rich tissue. This rejuvenates the skin, improving the appearance, smoothing skin texture, and aiding in the treatment of skin issues such as acne and aging skin.

Collagen Stimulation Therapy with Microneedling

Get to know your skin365 microneedling specialist

Jeanette Oka, M.D., has been a part of the Skin365 team for 10 years. In 2012, Dr. Oka was personally trained by Dr. Des Fernandes, the pioneer of microneedling. She is among the few in the United States with this kind of training, with clients from all over the country.

What is Microneedling?

A treatment that stimulates collagen production, while preserving the outermost layer of the skin. The body responds to this in the same way it would react to an injury. The small amount of bleeding caused during treatment releases powerful growth factors, which are part of a natural healing response, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production without causing any damage to the skin.

What are the benefits?

The benefits include improved skin tone and texture, wrinkle reduction, and softer, youthful-looking skin. It also targets acne scars and stretch marks.

What happens during the treatment?

Dr. Oka will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to your skin and use an instrument containing fine needles to repeatedly prick the skin's surface. This causes a minimal amount of bleeding. Afterward, Dr. Oka applies an array of nourishing vitamins A, C, peptides, and hyaluronic acid to soothe the skin. Dr. Oka will provide all details during your consultation.

What does it feel like? Does it hurt?

Since a topical anesthetic will be applied to your face for 30 minutes, the feeling of the needles penetrating your skin won't be painful and shouldn't be a concern. Each patient's pain tolerance and sensitivity levels may vary, and Dr. Oka will ensure you're comfortable during the entire session.

When do I see results?

The best results will appear within 4-6 weeks. Your skin will continue to improve within 6 months, as your collagen production continues.

How many treatments do I need for optimal results?

While you'll see great results after your first treatment, we encourage that you book 3-6 treatments, for optimal results, spaced out every 6-8 weeks.
